Trying to navigate your way through the vast
abundance of acne treatments in any drugstore can at best, be a
bewildering experience. If you are suffering from acne, the
last thing you need is to be presented with row upon row of
various treatments, especially when you have no real
inclination of which product to try.
There are the well known brands that have
been around forever and that makes you think that they must be
good or they would not have lasted this long. And then there is
always the newest "hot" product that has great commercials on
television bragging about near miraculous results.
Taking a trip to the drugstore for an acne
cure is not an uncommon practice at all. In fact, we tend to
run to the nearest drugstore at the slightest hint of a cold,
flu or in fact, any minor condition, simply because that's what
we've been taught to do.

Unfortunately, as I'm sure you will agree,
there is every probability that any new cream or lotion you
buy, will inevitably end up gathering dust because as with so
many other treatments, if no results are seen, you'll simply
stop using it. Sadly, every time you do this, you're
essentially throwing your money down the drain.
Before you spend a dime at the drug store,
it is a smart move for you and the acne sufferer in your family
to take some time and get an education about the disease and
what can be done about it. Even if the acne is in an early
stage of development and it has not become chronic by any
stretch of the imagination, scheduling some time with your
doctor or dermatologist is a great idea.
Dermatologists are specialists in their
field so they would be more than willing to offer sound advice.
Of course, as with the vast majority of conditions, early
diagnosis and treatment is advantageous.
While you are with the doctor, talk about
over the counter medications and what is the best choice for
the acne sufferer in your life. He or she will be able to guide
you to narrow down the choices because you will have more
information about the kind of acne your teenager is facing.
Also, don't ask the doctor for guidelines
about brands. Instead find out what active ingredients to look
for and how to evaluate a product by reading the small print on
the box. That will help you narrow down just the right
treatment for your situation and your acne patients needs.
Of course you or your teenager will feel
great when results are seen, but rather than place too much
faith in the latest treatment, also highlight the fact that
without a healthy lifestyle, no treatment will be 100%
effective. Yes, you will need to stay active just as you will
have to have a healthy diet, but if it means positive results,
then surely it's worth it.
In the event that one's desire to cure acne
leads to a better, healthier life, then being rid of your acne
is in essence, merely a positive side effect which is tiny by
comparison.
